The SirtFood Diet

The SirtFood Diet

SirtFood Diet

As you might have heard because of Adele and her transformation, this diet is taking off and has a lot of popularity. So, let’s look into this diet and understand what it is and how it works.

What is the SirtFood Diet

The diet has been created by 2 guys in the UK Aidan and Glen and they have a new book out call “The Sirtfood Diet” (see below) and they claim that the diet works by turning on your “skinny gene”. The pair focus has always been on healthy eating rather than weight loss. They go into detail on a meal plan which involves sirtfood juices accompanied by balanced sirtfood meals, which we will uncover in this article today.

The diet is based on SIRTs which is a group of seven proteins found in the body that has been shown to regulate a variety of functions within the body like metabolism, inflammation and it has also been associated with increasing your lifespan.

Certain natural plant compounds may be able to increase the level of these proteins in the body, and foods containing them have been called “sirtfoods.”

What foods fall under SirtFood:

  • Kale
  • Red wine
  • Strawberries
  • Onions
  • Soy
  • Parsley
  • Extra virgin olive oil
  • Dark chocolate (85% cocoa)
  • Matcha green tea
  • Buckwheat
  • Turmeric
  • Walnuts
  • Arugula (rocket)
  • Bird’s eye chili
  • Lovage
  • Medjool dates
  • Red chicory
  • Blueberries
  • Capers
  • Coffee

What is the Sirtfood diet plan?

The Sirtfood Diet is broken into two phases:

Phase 1 runs for one week, this is where you limit your intake to 1,000 calories a day, so for example the average intake for someone aged 26 – 35 years old is over 2,500 for males and over 2,000 for females. In this first week of this diet you drink three sirtfood green juices a day (Recipe below) and eat one sirtfood meal a day.

Phase 2 is where you increase your calories to 1,500 per day and drink two sirtfood green juices a day and eat two sirtfood meals a day.

Is the Diet good for you?!

Pros: It has its pros from the food you will eat which is high in nutrients and you will be getting your vitamin and mineral needs. Your intake of Super foods is going to increase, and the benefits of these foods are great and helps towards a longer lifespan and a reduction in visible aging.

Cons: The diet cuts out entire food groups which can be dangerous because the body is going to go through sharp change which can lead to similar symptoms of when you start the Keto Diet and you get the Keto Flu, and you may not be getting other proteins and fats which your body also need, but in saying that this diet is not a long term diet it is a short diet which is hard to follow and requires a lot of dedication and effort. The term stated in the book “Skinny gene” is not scientifically proven and needs more evidence.

Summary

If you are looking for a quick way to lose weight this diet is worth trying coupled with exercise, but remember it is not a long-term diet. The recommended approach would be to decrease your calories and increase the vegetables you eat but going to the extreme of this diet may cause you to give up more sooner. My approach would be if you are looking to lose weight fast the best way is to decrease your intake or the amount of times you eat but eat clean and foods you enjoy.
